Narges Abyar’s film at Madrid universities

Financial Tribune- Filmmaker Narges Abyar will attend a seminar on the ‘representation of gender in cinema’ at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain.

At the event on May 8-9 at the Faculty of Information Sciences, Abyar will speak about the role of women in Iran cinema, Mehr News Agency reported.

Spanish academia will present their papers on related issues.

Abyar’s 2014 film ‘Track 143’ is slated to be shown at the seminar. A war drama, the movie is a screen adaptation of Abyar’s novel titled ‘The Third Eye’ and emphasizes the role of women in the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war. It tells the story of Olfat, an aging woman waiting for her son who has been missing since the military hostilities broke out between the two neighbors.

The film won the audience choice award and the best actress award (for Merila Zarei) at the 32nd Fajr International Film Festival in 2014 and attended several international festivals.

‘Track 143’ will also be screened at the University of Salamanca, Madrid, on May 10 at the Faculty of Geography, where Abyar will respond to the viewers’ queries about the film in a Q & A session after the screening.

Born in Tehran, Abyar, 46, has written nearly 30 fiction books for children, young adults and adults. She has also made several short and feature-length documentaries.

Her other feature films, ‘Objects in Mirror’ and ‘Breath’ have also received many awards at local and foreign festivals.
