IRNA - Over 100 historical and cultural works, including sites, defensive, marine and wind structures, as well as residential and religious establishments were identified in Sedeh district of the city of Qayenat, the Research
Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) reported.
RICHT Public Relations Office quoted head of the survey and identification team Montasar Qolinejad as saying on Saturday that the program for the survey and identification of historical and cultural works in Sedeh district of the city of Qayenat was implemented for the preparation of the archeological map and other archeological surveys of South Khorasan Province.
“Sedeh district is located in the central part of Qahestan which is the confluence point of the north to south and east to west roads in this area,” he said.
“Although Qahestan and Qayenat in the Islamic era were considered as areas in east of Iran, however, due to lack of archeological researches in south of Khorasan there is limited information available about the area,” he added.
The archaeologist referred to the sites, defensive, marine and wind structures as well as residential and religious establishments as the most abundant works identified in the program implemented in Sedeh.
He said the most important real data of the survey are stone chips and clay works scattered over the area and the hills which date back to the pre-history up to the late Islamic eras.
