According to the latest information released by the Chinese Earthquake Administration, the 6.6-magnitude temblor, which hit Lushan County in Sichuan on Saturday, has left at least 160 people dead and more than 6,700 others injured.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang have ordered all possible measures to be taken to rescue the quake’s victims, and minimize deaths and sufferings.
The worst of China's earthquakes in recent years happened on May 12, 2008, when an earthquake in Sichuan killed about 70,000 people and left at least 4.8 million people homeless. The 8-magnitude Sichuan earthquake was the deadliest to strike China since the 1976 Tangshan quake, which had a death toll of 240,000.
