IRNA – An informed intelligence official on Sunday shed light on a number of certain security cases such as the arrest of several terrorist groups on Revolution Day, Iran-US prisoner swap in 2016 and hunting the terrorist ring leader Abdolmalik Rigi in 2010.
The unnamed source made the announcement while reacting to comments attributed to Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for Cultural and Social Affairs Brigadier General Mohammad Hossein Nejat about three (security) cases.
'With due respect' to the IRGC commander, the source said, it seems necessary to enlighten public opinion about Nejat's comments.
A terrorist group was to conduct anti-security operations on the Revolution Day (10 February, 2017) when Iranians celebrated the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. According to the source, the arrested terrorists were identified and captured “during an operation which was carried out from A to Z by the Intelligence Ministry” forces.
A second case was the arrest of terrorist ring leader Abdolmalik Rigi in 2010.
“Rigi's plane was identified and traced by the Intelligence Ministry forces and through close cooperation with the Iranian Air Force. The plane was forced to land in Bandar Abbas where the terrorist was arrested,” the source added .
As for the third case, he referred to the taking back, from the US, of a sum of money which belonged to Iran.
'Some $1,710bn was restored to Iran from the US during the prisoners swap talks. Upon an order by the Supreme National Security Council, a representative from the Intelligence Ministry has attended every stage of the talks in cooperation with officials from the Central Bank of Iran and the Legal Bureau of the Presidential Office.
'The talks ended in the release of the money, freedom of a number of prisoners and lifting of sanctions against a number of the Iranian banks as well as legal and real personalities,' the source added.
He stressed that no institutes or organizations but the Intelligence Ministry was involved in the three operations.
