Iraqi forces liberate regions in western parts of Mosul

IRNA – Iraqi forces including the Army, police and the volunteer forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) retook some regions in western part of Mosul in the first hours of the operation for liberation of the region.

According to the Iraq state TV report, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi declared the offensive against Daesh early Sunday.

Brigadier-general Yahya Rasool, the spokesperson of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said to Iraq’s state TV that Iraq’s armed forces including the Iraqi Army's 9th Division, the federal police, volunteer forces and air force started the operation early Sunday (at 6 o’clock in the morning local time).

The Iraqi forces have recaptured two villages of Bakheyrah and Athbah which are located on the sidelines of Baghdad-Mosul highway.

Al-Lazzagah and the power plant of the region located south of the western part of Mosul are also under the control of Iraqi armed forces.
