Financial Tribune- Influential poet and filmmaker Forough Farrokhzad (1935-1967) will be commemorated today, February 12, on the occasion of her 50th death anniversary, at Charsou Cineplex in Tehran.
Charsou in collaboration with Beethoven Music Center will hold the ceremony titled ‘The One Like No Other,’ named after one of her famous poems, ILNA reported.
Three films are to be screened on the occasion. ‘The House Is Black,’ the acclaimed Iranian documentary short film written and directed by Farrokhzad and released in 1963, is slated for 9 pm. The 22-minute film will be screened after ‘Summit of the Wave,’ a documentary by director, writer and researcher Nasser Saffarian, 41, at 7 pm.
Set in northern Iran, The House Is Black depicts the life and sufferings of a leper colony. The documentary includes a few shots with Farrokhzad and some others showing the colony to Iranian filmmaker, story writer, journalist, translator and photographer Ebrahim Golestan, who is now 95 years old.
It was the only film Farrokhzad directed. During the shooting, she became attached to Hossein Mansouri, a child born to a leper couple, whom she later adopted.
Summit of the Wave is an inspiring retrospective of Farrokhzad. Dying tragically in 1967, at the young age of 32, she had a short but illustrious career.
The film brings her career to light, displaying the social awareness and playful style of her talent. In the documentary, family members and admirers talk about her legacy. Fascinating scenes from her films and her real life are mixed to produce her portrait.
Alongside her more renowned efforts in filmmaking and writing poetry, Farrokhzad traversed acting, film editing, dubbing and writing musical scores.
‘The Green Cold,’ another documentary directed by Saffarian released in 2002, examines the conditions in which Farrokhzad became such an influential poet in a short time.
The funeral ceremony of Farrokhzad is documented in the film. All the three films will then be debated in the presence of Saffarian and other experts and critics.
