MNA – Babak Zanjani’s lawyer has said it is highly unlikely that the Judiciary implements the execution verdict on Babak Zanjani by March 21, the end of Iranian solar year.
Rasoul Kouhpayeh told Mehr News on Tuesday that Mr. Zanjani would file papers with appeal court and had only seen the court verdict few days ago. Earlier an Oil Ministry official responsible to follow up the administrative process to recover lost public money had provisioned execution of Zanjani before March 21, 2017 which coincides the beginning of the new Iranian solar year.
“Zanjani had been banned from meeting anyone including me as his lawyer and my official request to meet him on the case had been denied; I believe it is highly unlikely that the Judiciary implements the verdict before informing the lawyer and the convict; no verdict by the primary court would be directly implemented before the court of appeals hear the case; this is a fundamental right Articles 477 and 474 of the criminal court procedure recognize for the convicts,” he detailed.
Kouhpayeh also believed that execution of Babak Zanjani would extinguish hopes for recovering of public money lost in the case forever since Zanjani is the only credible individual to provide information about his assets in foreign banks and as private properties, a fact which made the execution highly unlikely.
