Embassy: French FM to discuss JCPOA, joint economic commission during visit to Tehran

29 Jan 2017 - 22:47

FNA- The French Embassy in Tehran in a statement on Sunday disclosed that the country's Foreign Minister Jean-March Ayrault will focus on the full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by all sides and also the holding of the first joint economic commission meeting of Paris and Tehran during his upcoming visit to Iran.

"During his two-day visit to Tehran, Ayrault will preside over meeting of the first Iran-France Joint Economic Commission," the statement said.

It also said that the French foreign minister will review the implementation of the nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the six world powers (the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany).

In relevant remarks on Saturday, Iranian Ambassador to Paris Ali Ahani said that the French foreign minister will be heading a politico-economic delegation to Iran on Monday.

Ahani said that the visit by Ayrault will coincide with first Iran-France Joint Economic Commission meeting.

He said that the joint economic commission will be co-chaired by Ayrault and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran and France will reportedly hold their joint economic meeting after some 17 years.

Former French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius paid a day-long visit to Tehran in late July at the invitation of Zarif.

Fabius held talks with senior Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, Zarif, Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh and Head of the Department of the Environment, Massoumeh Ebtekar.

Fabius’ visit to Iran, the first by a French foreign minister to the Islamic Republic in 12 years, came few months after Iran and the six world powers started implementing the nuclear agreement they signed last year.

Iran and the world powers signed the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, on July 14, 2015.

During the Iranian president’s historic visit to Paris in January 2016, Iran and France signed a series of basic trade deals thought to be worth billions of dollars.

Rouhani and his French counterpart Francois Hollande oversaw the signing of the deals that concerned cooperation in a range of sectors such as aviation, car manufacturing and oil among others.
