January 18, The Iran Project – An Iranian senior expert says the Islamic Republic has always been at the forefront of fighting against terrorism, helping to maintain the security of Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf countries.
Speaking at a meeting on counter-terrorism at the international level and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s position on Wednesday, Hussein Gharibi, an Iranian senior expert on counter-terrorism stressed that the country has a comprehensive and visionary look to the regional security.
The most important principle to further enable Iran’s counter-terrorism capacities is not paying attention to US and Israel’s charges against the country and focusing on the country's position in dealing with the worst global terrorist threat, Gharibi noted.
He also referred to Daesh as one of the most major threats to the countries’ security and stability, adding according to the statistics released by the terrorist group, in 2016, they operated 1141 terrorist attacks in three countries of Syria, Iraq and Libya.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian senior expert warned over the new phenomenon of foreign terrorists which has grown with the advent of the Daesh in Iraq and Syria, adding that about 30.000 foreign terrorists from more than 100 countries have come to the region, involving in ISIS terrorist activities.
Foreign terrorists, both from developed and developing countries, pose a serious threat to the region and the world, he noted.
