Iran tests new Toophan anti-tank missiles in ground forces drills

Sputnik- Iran has tested a new variant of the Toophan anti-tank missile during the ongoing Muhammad Rasulullah drills in the Gulf of Oman, local media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Iranian military helicopters fired the missiles while targeting improvised enemy vessels, the Tasnim news agency reported.

The Iranian-made missile has upgraded range, accuracy and launch system parameters. The three-day Muhammad Rasoulallah exercises entered their second day on Monday.

The war games are taking place in an area of some 220,000 square kilometers (85,000 square miles). The drills aim to improve the combat readiness of Iran's ground troops. Air force units are also taking part. The Toophan missile has been produced since 2000. It has seen a number of upgrades increasing warhead weight and adding laser guidance systems. The Qa'em variant is used against helicopters.
