IRNA – Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran has received letters from Omani officials expressing their readiness to purchase heavy water from Iran.

He made the remarks here on Tuesday while addressing a conference on the occasion of the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.

He confirmed Iran’s shipment of 11 tons of its excess heavy water to Oman and said Tehran has received letters in this regard from the other party.

He said Iran acted according to its commitments of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and thus expects other parties as well to comply with their responsibilities towards the deal.

He said the JCPOA has been moving on smoothly especially in technical fields where there are no problems and the low pace of action by other parties regarding removal of sanctions mainly relates to the performance of big banks.

This problem is also gradually settling thanks to the efforts of the Iranian foreign ministry, the official added.

Commenting on the remarks of the US president-elect regarding the JCPOA, Salehi said Donald Trump will certainly act according to realities once he practically takes office.

He said the JCPOA is a deal not between two countries which could be annulled by one of the parties but rather an international document which has been registered by the United Nations.
