Millions of pilgrims from more than 70 different nationalities head to Karbala: Iran

November 17, The Iran Project – An Iranian cleric Ayatollah Mohsen Ghomi said on Thursday that a large number of pilgrims from more than 70 different nationalities march to Karbala to commemorate Arbaeen rituals, stressing on the presence of Christians and Sunnis in the Arbaeen walk.

Emphasizing massive participation of pilgrims with different nationalities in Arbaeen ceremony, deputy head of Supreme leader’s office of International communication said Imam Hussein (PBUH) belongs to all humanity.

On October 30, the Supreme Leader’s representative for Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs, Ali Ghazi Askar said Arbaeen must express the international solidarity of Muslims and even non-Muslims in the face of oppression and imperialism, stressing that the event can become the focus of unity between Shias and Sunnis.”

Iranian cleric Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi also said previously that  “Imam Hussein (PBUH) belongs to the whole world, therefore, naturally people from other Islamic denominations are among the participants and they should be properly behaved.”

Arbaeen marks the fortieth day from Ashura, when the grandson of Holy Prophet, Imam Hussain (PBUH), was martyred in the desert plains of Karbala in Iraq along with his family and friends 14 centuries ago. Muslims across the globe commemorate the sacrifices each year.
