Larijani calls for further economic ties with Indonesia

MNA– Iranian Parl. Speaker Ali Larijani said Wed. despite good politico-parliamentary ties between Tehran and Jakarta, the two sides need to cooperate more on expanding economic relations.


Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Tehran Octavian Alimudin on Wednesday.

He called Indonesia an important country in the Islamic World and called for further joint efforts to improve the level of economic-trade ties between the two countries.

“Despite various other countries’ keen interest in doing investment in Iran, the Islamic Republic fully welcomes Indonesia’s investment in its oil and gas projects,” Larijani said.

He also noted that the country’s industry and tourism could prove effective in expanding economic relations between Tehran and Jakarta.

Larijani further referred to regional crises and issues facing the Islamic World, saying “Muslim countries can cooperate with one another to resolve these issues, and among them, Iran and Indonesia have good capacities for playing an effective role in this regard.”

The Indonesian ambassador, for his part, stressed the good parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in regional organizations, and expressed his country’s readiness to develop economic relations with Iran, particularly in investment projects in the field of oil and gas, trade transactions and collaboration among private sectors.
