November 14, The Iran Project - Head of Arbaeen's health committee announced on Monday that Iran's health ministry will chlorinate the tap water of the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq.

Visiting the services provided for the pilgrims, Pir Hossein Kolivand, who is also the head of Iran’s Emergency Medical Services, said in order to prevent diseases, Iran will send hypo-chlorine to chlorinate the tap water of Najaf and Karbala.

Iran's health ministry takes every necessary measure to provide the pilgrims' health, Kolivand stressed.

Establishing some clinics on the way from Najaf to Karbala, Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS) also announced earlier it has been offering free services to Iranian pilgrims in various parts of the march route.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH) and millions of faithfuls from across the globe annually converge on the Iraqi city of Karbala to commemorate the largest religious gatherings in the world.

It is predicted that more than two million Iranians would go on pilgrimage to Iraq for Arbaeen this year.

Last year, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world, including over 1.6 million Iranians, gathered in Karbala to attend the mourning ceremonies marking Arbaeen.
