Tehran, Nov 2, IRNA – The national Student Day marks a symbolic day of resistance against foreign colonialist powers and internal dictators, says President Hassan Rouhani.


'It marks the historical day when late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini was sent into exile by the ex-shah in 1964 for his rejection of the capitulation law ratified by the deposed Shah regime, President Rouhani said in a meeting of the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council Tuesday evening.

'The Iranian people and students joined the movement initiated by Imam Khomeini in a reaction against the arrogant powers and dictators and to establish a national and social movement in the face of all manifestations of colonialism,' President Rouhani said.

The national Students Day is observed in Iran every year to celebrate the 1979 takeover of the US embassy in Tehran with anti-US demonstrations.
