Judiciary chief confers with Iraqi foreign minister

Baghdad, Oct 31, IRNA – Iran's Judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani in a meeting with Iraq Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ja'fari on Monday emphasized the need for collective campaign of the international community against terrorism.


They reviewed cooperation of the two countries on international affairs, human rights, campaign against terrorism and organized crimes.

Amoli Larijani termed the memorandum of understanding signed on Sunday between the two countries as effective for coordination of Tehran and Baghdad in international organizations.

Ayatollah Larijani, leading a high ranking judiciary delegation arrived in Baghdad on Saturday.

He met with head of Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council Medhat al-Mahmoud and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on judicial cooperation.

Iran Judiciary chief also met with heads of three branches of Iraqi government.

Iraq Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri met with Ayatollah Larijani.

President Fouad Masoum hosted Ayatollah Larijani in al-Salam Palace in Baghdad on Monday.

He also attended luncheon by head of Iraqi Supreme National Council Ammar Hakim on Monday.

On Monday afternoon, before departing for the holy city of Najaf, the Judiciary chief met with Vice-President and former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and head of Sunni Endowment Diwan Abdulatif al-Hemyem separately.

He is scheduled to meet with senior clerics in Najaf.
