Tehran, Oct 24, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday conferred with European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Christos Stylianides on situation of foreign refugees living at Kerman refugee camp.
The meeting is in the context of the European officials visit to Tehran following the nuclear agreement.
Stylianides visited refugee camp in Kerman on Sunday to examine situation of foreign refugees living there.
In a meeting with Governor General of Kerman Province Ali Reza Razm-Hosseini, Stylianides said that the European Union is aware of the high cost of sheltering foreign refugees and that the governments which have given refuge to Afghan immigrants are facing with numerous difficulties in light of the dire situation in the region.
The EU commissioner said that the EU spent 5.8 billion dollars for Afghanistan and decided to increase amount of humanitarian aid aid for immigrants inside of Iran.
Stylianides added that European assistances are not enough and adequate for immigrants and The EU is ware of the heavy expenses Iran has paid in this concern.
The EU commissioner said that Iran exercised close cooperation with the EU about humanitarian relief aid to the refugees the EU believes that Iran should take higher position in international arena in this concern.
