DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syria’s army, backed by volunteer forces, pushed back a major attack launched by Takfiri terrorists in the Arab country’s western-central province of Hama.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Syrian troops repelled the offensive by Ahrar al-Sham and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham militant groups in al-Sathiat area, Hama, on Tuesday. A large number of the terrorists were killed during the clashes.

In a separate development on Tuesday, Syrian warplanes targeted a convoy of vehicles belonging to the terrorists in the northwestern city of Idlib, and killed nearly 40 militants.

Additionally, the Syrian forces continued their campaign against the terrorists in the northwestern city of Aleppo on Tuesday, inflicting heavy losses on them in different areas of the city.

Aleppo, once Syria’s commercial and industrial hub, has been divided roughly in two parts since 2012, with the government controlling the west and terrorists the east.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
