TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of Tehran Police Force Brigadier General Hossein Sajedinia made assurances that the capital city’s police are on full alert to provide security for mourning ceremonies held on the anniversary of martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Brigadier General Sajedinia pointed to plans made by Tehran Police Force to ensure security of mourning ceremonies in the capital, saying “good arrangements” have been made on the traffic and security aspects of the ceremonies.
Tehran Police Force will be on full alert for a week from October 7 to 14 to ensure security of mourning processions and enforce law and order in streets across the capital, the commander added.
The remarks come against a backdrop of increasing threats by some terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) throughout the region and the world.
Millions of Shiite Muslims around the world, including in Iran, hold mourning ceremonies for ten days to mark the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hossein, grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and his fighting for justice.
The third Shiite Imam, along with 72 of his companions, was martyred in a battle against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid ibn Muawiyah, in the Iraqi region of Karbala, some 14 centuries ago.
The ceremonies symbolize the eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and for Iranian, the day lies at the heart of all struggles against oppression and tyranny.
Iranian mourners usually gather in main streets and mosques for commemorating the sad event.
