Terrorists launch chemical attack on Syria’s Kefraya, Foua

3 Oct 2016 - 23:54

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Terrorist groups have carried out chemical attacks on residential areas in the villages of Foua and Kefraya near Syria’s northwestern city of Idlib, sources said.

A local source told Tasnim on Monday that rebels affiliated with al-Nusra Front terrorist group, self proclaimed as Jabhat Fateh al-Sham in July, have been firing chlorine gas mortar shells on people in Foua and Kefraya, two pro-government villages in Idlib’s northern suburbs.

A number of people have been injured in the bombings with some choking, the source added.

The Syrian army reached a truce deal with Takfiri militants on the evacuation of residents of the two predominantly Shiite villages last December. However, large groups of civilians are still under the siege of the terrorists.

Idlib, a provincial capital in Syria's northwest, has been held by terrorist groups since March 2015.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

Some 470,000 Syrians have been killed throughout the five years of bloodshed, 4.8 million have fled the country, and 6.6 million have become internally displaced by the violence.
