Iran’s sacred defense a lesson for those who supported Saddam: Comdr

21 Sep 2016 - 14:31

Tehran, Sept 21, IRNA – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Mohammad Baqeri said Iran’s sacred defense taught a lesson to those who provided fianacial and military aid for the Ba'ath regime of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

The commander made the remarks while addressing a ceremony here on Wednesday to mark the Sacred Defense Week in the country.

Shahrivar 31 (according to the Iranian calendar year) marks anniversary of the Iraqi Ba'ath regime's invasion on Iran in 1980 which was the beginning of an eight-year imposed war against the newly-born Islamic Revolution.

Memories of braveries of the Iranian forces during the imposed war are commemorated in Iran every year by holding week-long ceremonies known as the Sacred Defense Week.

During the ceremonies, the Iranian Armed Forces stage nationwide military parades to display their achievements and capabilities.

Iraq's invasion on Iran was the clear evidence of Iranians peace-loving nature, Commander Baqeri said.

He stressed that all those who are seeking war against Iran should know that they will gain nothing but defeat.

Any country that helps the US, the Zionist regime and the child-killer Daesh terrorists will face a future not much better than that of Saddam’s, the commander predicted.

The brigadier general said that enemies launched a war against Iran to destroy the nation but Iranians turned the war into a sacred defense which served as a tool to promote their self-sufficiency and independence.

This year's Sacred Defense Week started Wednesday morning with the parade of various units of the Armed Forces at the mausoleum of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini in southern Tehran.
