13 Sep 2016 - 22:51

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan unveiled the country’s plans for manufacturing heavy turbojets and turbofans.

The Defense Ministry’s next stride in the aeronautical industry is designing and manufacturing heavy turbojets and turbofans, Dehqan said on Tuesday, expecting that the project would yield results within the next two years.

He was speaking in a meeting in Tehran, held to honor local experts for manufacturing the country’s first homegrown turbojet engine, dubbed Owj.

Dehqan also expressed the Defense Ministry’s determination to furnish the Air Force fleet with homegrown aircraft, including choppers, warplanes, drones and civilian planes.

Iranian military technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Tehran has always assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
