Behrouz Kamalvandi, the deputy head of the Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) stated that Tehran allocated money for the construction of two new nuclear reactors at the site of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iran has allocated money for the construction of two new nuclear reactors at the site of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, known as the Bushehr-2 project, the deputy head of the country's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) was quoted as saying by local media.

Behrouz Kamalvandi did not reveal the amount allocated by Tehran to fund the project when speaking on the matter on Sunday but noted that President Hassan Rouhani gave the go-ahead for construction to commence, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported. "We are going to set the date for the foundation stone ceremony in the near future," the AEOI deputy head said. Bushehr, Iran’s first Russian-built nuclear power plant, began operations in 2011. The project for Bushehr-2 was presented by Russian nuclear experts in Tehran in September 2014. In November, Iran signed a number of deals with Russia for the construction of two new nuclear reactors at the Bushehr site with an option for an additional six.
