RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 10 (MNA) – Iran’s Mojtaba Abedini on Wed. qualified for the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games sabre fencing event after a 15-12 victory over South Korea’s Gu Bon-Gil.
Mojtaba Abedini who managed to defeat his Ukrainian opponent in the round of 32, progressed to round of 16 to go against South Korea’s Gu Bon-Gil on Wednesday.
Gu, who has the third world ranking as well as London Olympics gold medal, was defeated by Abedini 15-11. With this victory, Abedini managed to secure his place at the quarterfinals with seven other fencers.
Abedini will take on Vincent Anstett from France in the quarterfinals, to be held at 23:10 Tehran time.
Meanwhile, another Iranian fencer Ali Pakdaman lost to his German opponent Matyas Szabo 15-11 in the round of 32 and was eliminated from the next round of competitions.
