Iran’s Intelligence Ministry says it has identified 102 members or supporters of a terrorist group in the western province of Kordestan.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said that the identified individuals belong to the so-called Tawhid and Jihad Takfiri terrorist group.
It added that some of the terrorists were also killed and arrested during clashes with police and security forces.
Among those arrested, some were convicted and sentenced to death and life in prison, according to the statement.
The ministry also said that 20 people were killed and 40 others injured as a result of the group’s activities during the past seven years.
The statement listed the groups' activities, including the assassination of local officials and armed robbery, in the provincial capital city of Sanandaj over the past years.
Mohammad Sheikholeslam, the representative of Kordestan province in Iran’s Assembly of Experts, and Borhan Ali, a renowned Sunni cleric, were among those who have fallen victim to the group’s terrorist activities.
Meanwhile, the provincial justice department in the city of Sanandaj said in a statement that those members of the Takfiri terrorist group who were sentenced to death were executed early on Tuesday.
This comes as Iranian forces have recently engaged in clashes with terror groups, thwarting their terrorist activities on the border and within the country, arresting several of them and confiscating large amounts of explosives and bomb-making materials.
On July 7, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps killed two outlaws affiliated with counter-revolutionary groups in the province of Kordestan.
In the same month, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said it had foiled a major Takfiri-Wahhabi plot to carry out bomb attacks in the capital, Tehran, and other provinces and arrested many suspects.
