3 Aug 2016 - 11:23

Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security at the Iranian Shura Council, Alaeddin Boroujerdi wrapped up on Tuesday his two-day visit to Lebanon, stressing that Tehran is keen on Lebanon unity.

On his second day of Lebanon visit, Boroujerdi met with Prime Minister Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail.

“Iran supports Lebanon’s unity and dialogue and we are ready for any measure that fortifies ties between the two countries,” the top Iranian official said.

Later on Tuesday, Boroujerdi met with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh. He stressed that the presidential vacancy is a Lebanese issue that Iran doesn’t interfere in.

"The presidential election is an internal matter, and this vacuum will end with Lebanese-Lebanese agreement, and we hope to see an end (to the issue) as soon as possible," he said in a news conference from Ain al-Tineh after the meeting.

"Lebanon is small in its size but big in its regional role," he added.

On his first day in Beirut, the Iranian official had said that his country was prepared to offer the Lebanese Army military aid, and added that Iran does not interfere in Lebanese internal affairs.
