Iran, Ghana to strengthen south-south coop.: Zarif

TEHRAN, Jul. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s Zarif and his Ghanaian counterpart sit at a gathering aimed to develop trade and cooperation between Iran and Ghana, in Accra on Tuesday.


“The ground for cooperation is now ready and clear for traders, bankers and financial activists of both Iran and Ghana,” said Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, at a convention titled “Iran-Ghana Trade and Economy Cooperation,” in the Ghanaian capital city of Accra on Tuesday.

Iran’s Zarif is visiting the African country at the head of 38 member delegation of Iranian investors and economy activists. Ghana is the second stop on Iranian foreign minister four-nation African tour. Zarif left Nigeria on Monday for Ghana and will travel to Guinea-Conakry and Mali after finishing with Ghana.

“I am delighted to be in Ghana at the top of a trade delegation because Africa and especially the west of the continent matters a lot to us,” highlighted the Iranian senior diplomat.

The chief of Iran’s diplomatic entity affirmed that many Iranian trade, economy, and science section has been present in Ghana for years.

“Iranians credit Kwame Nkrumah [Former President of Ghana who led Ghana to independence from Britain in 1957] with due respect as a hero of resistance and freedom,” articulated the Iranian minister.

Zarif underlined that Iran and Ghana are two developing countries contributive to south-south cooperation.

“Anti-Iran sanctions have been lifted and the situation is perfectly fine-tuned for developing cooperation between financial and banking systems of the both country,” stressed the Iranian diplomat.

The Ghanaian counterpart of Zarif, Hanna Tetteh, was also present in this meeting and for her part voiced the will of her country for examining the opportunities of cooperation between private and public sector of both countries.

“Ghana’s ministries of foreign affairs and trade are ready to cooperate with Iranian delegation to reach the desired success,” contended Ghana's minister for foreign affairs and regional integration.
