Iranian tennis players have delivered fine performances at the 2016 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III currently underway in Tehran, and overwhelmed opponents from the Pacific Oceania.
On Monday, the first day of the event in Tehran’s Enghelab Sports Complex, 35-year-old Iranian sportsman Anousha Shahgholi clinched a 6-1 victory over Heve Kelley in the first set.
The Iranian athlete maintained the lead in the second set, and asserted clear dominance on the court by means of some cracking balls, which the 19-year-old Pacific Oceania competitor could not leap to defend. Shahgholi claimed the second set by 6 points to 4 at last.
Later in the day, Iran’s Shahin Khaledan took on William O’ Connell in another individual challenge, and led 6-1 in the first set.
The Iranian tennis player kept his laudable mental and physical skills later on, and pulled off a 6-1 win in the second period.
