TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Lieutenant Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base on Saturday said the number of the air defense’s advanced electronic listening and radar stations has doubled in the past five years.





Highlighting the base’s achievements, General Ali Reza Sabahi-Fard said the number of the air defense’s missile sites have also increased 1.5-fold in the said period.

He also noted that the air defense base’s domestic experts have managed to design and build its required defense systems.

“Today, the integrated and domestic air defense network is powerfully monitoring and has full dominance over the country’s airspace,” he went on to say.

Last month, commander of base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili, also highlighted the Army’s air defense capabilities, saying the country’s integrated air defense network is protecting 3700 sensitive sites inside and outside the borders.

“(Iran’s) air defense doctrine is based on 360-degree threat (detection and assessment) and therefore all of our artillery, radar, missile, electronic surveillance and monitoring systems should be aware of each other and act as an integrated network to have a coherent defense,” the commander said on June 5.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iran has made it clear that its military might poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
