Senior diplomat: Israel fears world's normalization of economic, banking ties with Iran

26 Jun 2016 - 18:59

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry's Director General for Political Affairs and International Security Hamid Baeedinejad expressed pleasure in the world’s anti-money laundering body's suspension of restrictions against Iran, and said the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)'s statement against the decision shows the Zionists' fear and anger.

"During the post-nuclear-deal era, the international banks described the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)'s restrictions as one of the most important obstacles in the way of resuming banking and financial relations with the Iranian sides but all of them have now been suspended," Baeedijenad wrote on his Instagram page on Sunday.

"Despite the satisfaction of many international banking and financial institutions with the FATF's new move which removes an important obstacle to their relations with Iran, the anger shown by the AIPAC, the highly influential Zionist lobby in the US, which issued a harsh statement against the FATF's decision shows how much the Zionists fear normalization of international economic and banking relations with Iran," he added.

The FATF hailed on Friday Iran’s adoption of an action plan to address shortcomings in its anti-money laundering policies and its decision to seek assistance with implementation.

In its plenary meeting in South Korea, the body took into account Iran's implementation of an anti-money laundering law and its membership at the Eurasian Group, an FATF-style regional body.
