Iran’s Tasisat Daryaei fails to edge past Barcelona in Futsal Intercontinental Cup

Iranian futsal club Tasisat Daryaei has lost to the Spain-based FC Barcelona Lassa in its opening match of the 17th edition of Futsal Intercontinental Cup in Qatar.

On Saturday morning, Vahid Shamsaei’s men lost with a score of 4-2 their Group A fixture at the indoor Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Doha to the Spanish club.

Tasisat Daryaei’s forwards Saeed Abbasi and Shamsaei smashed shots into the back of FC Barcelona Lassa’s net to pocket two goals for their side.

Wilde Gomes da Silva, who is commonly known as Wilde and plays for Barcelona as a Pivot, scored a hat trick, while 30-year-old Spanish futsal player Ángel Velasco Marugán added a fourth.

In another match of the day, Russia’s MFK Dinamo Moskva managed to prevail with a score of 3-2 over Brazilian futsal club Associação Carlos Barbosa de Futsal, which is usually known as Carlos Barbosa or by the acronym ACBF.

Tasisat Daryaei futsal players are scheduled to meet counterparts from Carlos Barbosa club in their second encounter on Sunday morning.

The 17th edition of Futsal Intercontinental Cup started in Doha on June 24 and will conclude on June 29.

Iran’s Tasisat Daryaei futsal club is drawn in Group A of the competition alongside Russia’s MFK Dinamo Moskva, Carlos Barbosa of Brazil and Spanish giant FC Barcelona Lassa.

Group B consists of Qatar’s Al Rayyan, Portuguese club Benfica, Brazil’s Magnus Futsal and Movistar Inter of Spain.

The club with the highest number of intercontinental titles is Movistar Inter, which claimed the championship consecutively from 2005 to 2011.

The Intercontinental Futsal Cup inaugurated in 1997 and Brazilian club Sport Club Internacional, which is based in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, won the first title after beating FC Barcelona 4-2 in the final.

The tournament was not recognized by FIFA, which serves as the world’s soccer governing body.

The first edition of the tournament recognized by FIFA took place in 2004, when Brazil’s Carlos Barbosa pummeled Playas de Castellón FS of Spain 6-3 in the final showdown.

The southern Brazilian city of Erechim hosted the last edition of the FIFA Intercontinental Futsal Cup in 2015, when Atlântico of Brazil beat Kazakh futsal club AFC Kairat 4-3.
