Iran exports $160m worth of medicines: Minister

Bojnourd, North Khorasan prov, June 21, IRNA - Minister of Health and Medical Education Hassan Hashemi said in this northeastern province on Tuesday some $160 million worth of medicines have been exported in the past three years.

Talking to reporters, Hashemi said the figure showed a two-fold increase compared to its previous years.

He added the import of medical items too dropped to $300 million during the mention period.

Hashemi reiterated that at least 96 percent of the Iran's medicine needs are currently produced inside the country.

He added the Iranian government is also trying to renovate medical centers and hospitals nationwide.

Hashemi reiterated that several foreign investors also have voiced their willingness to make investment in Iran medical sector.

Iranian health minister, heading a delegation, traveled to Bojnourd for a two-day visit.
