Iranians awarded 17 medals in International Athletics Competitions

Iranian sportsmen and sportswoman have exhibited awe-inspiring displays of talent at the 2016 International Athletics Competitions in Turkey, and claimed seventeen medals, including six gold.

On Sunday, Iran’s 27-year-old sprinter Maryam Tousi clocked 24.11 seconds at the women’s 200-meter race in the eastern Turkish city of Erzurum, and landed in the second positions.

A Ukrainian contestant grabbed the gold medal with 23.59 second, and a sprint athlete from the host nation registered 24.29 second to receive the bronze.

In the men's 4x100 meters relay or sprint relay, the Iranian outfit, comprised of Ali Khadivar, Reza Qasemi, Mahdi Zamani and Sajjad Hashemi, set the time of 39.84 seconds to scoop the bronze.

The Turkish and Romanian teams were awarded the gold and silver medals with 38.31 and 39.60 seconds respectively.

Mohammad Arzandeh leapt 7 meters and 85 centimeters in the long jump event, and stood on the top podium.

A Turkish jumper snatched the silver medal with his best effort of 7.78 meters.

The bronze went to Iran’s Sobhan Taherkhani, who registered 7 meters and 56 centimeters.

Ali Samari vied in the men's shot put competitions, and picked a gold medal for the Islamic Republic with a winning throw of 18.92 meters.

The silver and bronze medals went to Turkish shot putters with winning throws of 17.60 and 13.43 meters in their final attempts.

In the men's javelin throw division, Iranian pitcher Omid Taji earned the gold medal with his best effort of 76.12 meters.

A representative from Romania won the silver medal with a winning throw of 74.56 meters, and Yousef Yousefvand from Iran claimed the bronze with 67.37 meters.

Iran’s triple jumper Vahid Seddigh settled for the bronze with a record of 15.79 meters. Romanian jumpers finished first and second, having registered 15.85 and 15.83 meters.

Shahrouz Baniadam finished third in the pole vault with 4.60 meters, while Turkish contestants clinched the gold and silver medals.

The achievements came a day after Iranian male and female athletes had received three gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

The 2016 International Athletics Competitions started in Erzurum, Turkey, on June 11, and wrapped up the next day.
