Iran ambassador meets with Malaysian new Senate president

Kuala Lumpur, June 7, IRNA – Iranian ambassador to Malaysia Marzieh Afkham on Tuesday met with the new Malaysian Senate President Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran.
 
During the meeting, Afkham congratulated Vigneswaran on election to the post, expressing hope that the two countries would enhance parliamentary relations to help their bilateral relations in all areas.

Referring to the regional crises across West Asia, the ambassador underlined the necessity of further dialogue and cooperation between Islamic countries and their active presence in the international arena to help find a peaceful settlement to the internatinal disputes in the region.

In the meantime, the Malaysian Senate president congratulated Ms. Afkham on being appointed the first Iranian female ambassador to a foreign country.

Vigneswaran referred to good relations between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur and a large number of Iranian students studying in Malaysian universities, saying the Malaysian Parliament is determined to promote relations with all the countries including Iran.

He welcomed enhanced parliamentary relations between the two countries as the new parliament opened in Iran over the past few days, saying parliamentary friendship groups can play a key role in expansion of relations between Iran and Malaysia.
