TEHRAN- Iran’s exports of foodstuffs during the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2016) stood at over $2.2 billion, a senior official in the country’s Industry, Mining and Trade Ministry announced, Tasnim news agency reported.
Mehdi Sadeqi Anaraki, the director general for food, pharmaceutical and health industries in the mentioned ministry, said that around 11,000 firms are presently active in Iran’s food, pharmaceutical and health sectors, products of which constitute 15 percent of the country’s total production.
He noted that majority of these firms, which belong to the private sector, are categorized as small or medium-sized industries.
Anaraki hailed the productivity and management of these firms that has led into an acceptable volume of exports.
