Jaberi Ansari rejects reports on presence of Taliban leader in Iran

Tehran, May 23, IRNA – Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Hossein Jaberi Ansari rejected claims made by certain Arab media that Taliban leader Akhtar Mansour had been in Iran.

At his weekly press conference, Jaberi Ansari said the reports that Mansour had been in Iran or had entered Pakistani soil through Iran border are not true.

Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah has said Afghan and US security forces are assessing the US attack to be assured of whether Mansour has been killed or not.

Abdullah noted that Mansour's car was attacked by a US drone in Pakistan's soil.

on killing of Mansour who had been among important persons in the terrorist group of Taliban, Jaberi Ansari said Iran welcomes any measure in line with bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan.

On the trip of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tehran, Jaberi Ansari described it as economically important.

Before imposed sanctions on Iran, the country had been the second oil provider for India, said the senior diplomat adding the era of post Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has prepared the ground for the two nations to witness that cooperation again.

Simultaneous with trip of Modi to Tehran, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani arrived in the Iranian capital on Monday morning for signing a trilateral agreement on Chabahar port between Iran, Afghanistan and India, Jaberi Ansari said, stressing Chabahar is an important port that can play a leading role in trilateral exchanges.

He further hoped such an agreement will result in more trilateral cooperation.

About Russia's proposal for holding quadrilateral peace talks between Iran, Russia, Afghanistan and India, Jaberi Ansari said Tehran is for any move towards peace and tranquility in Afghanistan.

If Afghanistan and other effective countries want to take Russia's proposal into consideration, Iran also welcomes it.
