German politician urges close cooperation with Iran

Gummersbach, Germany, May 22, IRNA – Bijan Jirsaraei former head of Iran-Germany parliamentary friendship group on Sunday urged the western countries to start close cooperation with Iran on regional issues.


Jirsaraei made the remarks in the third Transatlantic Assembly meeting on 'Iran, Saudi Arabia Conflict and the West'.

The West should not repeat the past mistakes towards Iran and it should have close cooperation with Tehran on the resolution of regional conflicts, the German politician said.

The former member of German parliament said that without Iran cooperation, stability will not return to Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Lebanon and the crises in these countries will not be resolved.

The vital role Iran can also play to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should not be denied, Jirsaraei said.

He criticized the West for supporting Saudi Arabia and said that Iran had a constructive role in Afghanistan and it can assume a similar role in Iraq and Syria.

The Transatlantic Assembly launched its meeting in Gummersbach, Germany on Friday to discuss 'Iran, Saudi Arabia Conflict and the West' .

The three-day meeting was organized by Theodor Heuss Academy and Transatlantic Assembly, two German think tanks.

Issues related to Iran, the conflict with Saudi Arabia and opening of Iran's gates toward the West were discussed in the event.

University professors, analysts, military and security experts were among the participants.
