TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of Iran's Law Enforcement Police Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari called on Albania to extradite the suspect of the 1981 bombing in Tehran which killed several high-ranking Iranian officials.
"Albania hasn’t shown any cooperation after the Islamic Republic of Iran's police announced that the suspect of the bombing at Iran Islamic Republic Party (IRP)'s central office is guilty and after she was arrested in Albania," Ashtari told reporters in Tehran on Monday.
"The woman is among the wanted individuals and this has been stated to Albania and she was arrested and we want her to be extradited to Iran," he added.
Ashtari expressed the hope that the Albanian officials would cooperate with Iran to extradite the suspect.
On 28 June, 1981, a powerful bomb went off at the headquarters of the Iran Islamic Republic Party (IRP) in Tehran, while a meeting of party leaders was in progress.
Seventy-three leading officials of the Islamic Republic were killed, including Chief Justice Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti, (who was the second most powerful figure in the revolution after Ayatollah Khomeini at the time).
The terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO, also known as MEK, PMOI and NCRI) is thought to have been responsible for the attack.
