12 May 2016 - 10:07

Tehran, May 11, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Wednesday called for a sustainable ceasefire in Yemen and lift the siege laid on the country.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remaks in a meeting with German State Secretary Marcus Ederer.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister urged the parties involved in the peace talks in Kuwait to adopt constructive approaches.

Underlining political solution and fighting terrorism in Syria, Amir Abdollahian blamed interconnecting well-known terrorist groups blacklisted by the UN with the armed violent groups in the country for instability and violation of ceasefire in Syria.

Ederer, for his part, referred to Iran's positive role, saying that Germany believes that Syrian crisis has a political solution.

As to Yemen, he hoped that the parties would achieve a solution to the country's problems through diplomacy.

The two officials discussed regional and Iraq developments during the meeting.

Earlier, Ederer discussed bilateral ties and regional and international issues with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Chairman of Expediency Council's Strategic Research Center Ali Akbar Velayati.
