Zarif concerned about Karabakh conflict, calls for de-escalation

Tehran, April 5, IRNA - Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with his Azeri counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Ramsar on Tuesday expressed deep concern about the Azeri-Armenian conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, calling for de-escalation.

Azeri foreign minister arrived in Ramsar, north of Iran, to attend the fourth meeting of foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Upon his arrival to Ramsar, he conferred with Mohammad Javad Zarif on issues of mutual interests along with regional developments.

In the meeting, Zarif called for an immediate end to the conflict and restoration of peace and tranquility to Karabakh.

Referring to his telephone conversation with Armenian counterpart on the same day, Zarif voiced Iran's readiness to help resolve the dispute through peaceful means.

The two foreign ministers studied latest developments and the grounds for expansion of economic cooperation.

Azeri foreign minister, for his part voiced his country's readiness for investment in Rasht-Qazvin-Astara railway.
