TEHRAN, Mar. 05 (MNA) – ICAO Director has announced that Iran will sing an MoU with British Airways in the current week.

Deputy Aviation and International Affairs Chief of Iranian Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Mohammad Khodakarami has announced the increased willingness of foreign airliners to participate in Iran saying “the officials at British Airways (BA) will make a visit to Tehran in the current week in order to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ICAO.”

“Air France travelled to Iran about two months ago sealing an MoU with ICAO on Tehran-Paris direct flights,” recalled the official adding “the Frankfurt-Tehran flights will get a boost while the flights of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in the Amsterdam-Tehran route will get resumed after a three-year halt.”

The official went on note that “Alitalia Airlines has increased Rome-Tehran flights from four to seven times a week as well as that AirAsia Airlines Company has voiced readiness to resume flights to Iran after the Malaysian company had suspended its flights to Iran in 2014.”

Khodakarami also announced three airlines’ readiness to start operations to Iran including Malaysia’s Air Asia and two unknown Japanese and Spanish airlines.

European carriers stopped their flights to Iran after the West imposed sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.

“Following Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers, several European airlines aim to resume their flights to the country,” said Mohammad Khodakarami, Deputy Head of CAO.

Recently, Iran said it is also considering direct flights to the United States while direct flights stopped between the two countries more than three decades ago.
