Elections turnout raised Iran on international scene

TEHRAN, Feb. 29 (MNA) – Iran’s Parl. Speaker Ali Larijani said Mon. nation’s unified participation in elections raised Iran’s status on the international scene and defined a new position for the country.


Ali Larijani made the comment in the first open session of the Parliament after the 26 Feb. twin elections in Iran (Parliament and Assembly of Experts Elections), saying “how Iranian people treated the issue of elections created a new assessing measure in relations with Iran on the international scene.”

“Since Iran is one of the few countries in the region with a democratic system, the turnout percentage is the decisive point in international equations with the country,” he added.

Larijani went on to add that, “due to pervasive security crises in the region and the surprising confusion and disorder in certain countries as well as terrorist escapades, the Iranian nation’s innovative role in the elections on the one hand indicates stability and high security factor in Iran and on the other hand, the government’s strong security support has increased the Islamic Republic’s stabilizing role in the region.”

“Following the nuclear agreement, the nation’s pervasive participation in the elections have sent this message to all countries that the Islamic Republic enjoys a strong popular support and the nation is ready to begin a new move in building a prosperous, free and independent Islamic Iran,” he said.

Larijani further stressed that the nation’s endeavors should give more strength to Iran in its dealings on the regional and international scenes as well as advancing its domestic objectives.
