Iran is hosting the 21st edition of the international indoor athletics championships commemorating the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
The opening ceremony of the sports event took place at Tehran’s Aftab-e Enghelab Sports Complex on Thursday, and was attended by the Head of the Physical Education Organization of Iran Mohammad Aliabadi, Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth Hamid Sajjadi and a number of veteran Iranian athletes.
The tournament has brought together nearly 270 athletes from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, Oman and Armenia.
Tajik sportsmen and women missed the competitions as their Tehran-bound flight was cancelled on Tuesday morning due to poor weather conditions in Dushanbe.
The Iranian and foreign athletes will compete with each other in 13 men’s and 12 women’s events.
The 21st edition of the international indoor athletics championships commemorating the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979 will wrap on February 15.
