Iran's National Observatory to become trans-regional laboratory: Official

Tehran, February 18, The Iran Project – Iranian National Observatory will become a trans-regional Laboratory if the national observatory plan implements by next two years, the head of Iran’s Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) announced on Thursday.

Addressing a committee session at the ministry of science on Thursday, Mohammad Javad Larijani, the director of Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) noted the national observatory plan as Iran’s major scientific project which will become a trans-regional laboratory in case of implementation by next two years.

He demanded the Ministry’s High Council of Science, Research and Technology to approve the project as a major national plan, adding that the institute welcomes any supervision.

Referring to the Supreme leader’s remarks, Iranian member of parliament and government’s support of this scientific project, Larijani went on to say that location, as a tough stage and finally the project was sent to be located in a area near Kashan, Isfahan province.

“Number of Iranian knowledge-based firms have cooperated the institute to equip the observatory”, he stated, highlighting the donation of money by Iran’s supreme leader and parliament to cover the project’s costs.

The construction of a large observatory for the country was introduced in 1998 and later was approved by the Council of Scientific Research.
