Tehran, Feb 7, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian described Saudi Arabia's policy to extend tensions to sports as wrong.
He made the remarks speaking exclusively with IRNA.
'We insist on holding AFC Champions League games in Islamic Republic of Iran,' Amir-Abdollahian said.
Following the severing of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Football Federation has called for holding games between Iranian and Saudi teams in third countries.
In its latest meeting, the Asian Football Federation asked Iran and Saudi Arabia to resolve their issues by March 15.
Amir-Abdollahian said that during a meeting earlier today attended by him, Sports and Youth Minister Mahmoud Goudarzi, officials from Iran Football Federation and representatives from the Iranian teams present at ACL, it was agreed to inform the AFC that Iran is ready to safely hold Asian games.
