Riyadh-supported Syrian opposition refuses to recognize other delegation

1 Feb 2016 - 10:22

The Riyadh-formed Syrian opposition delegation refuses to recognize the delegation proposed by Moscow and Cairo, a spokesman for the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) said Sunday.

GENEVA (Sputnik) — A number of stakeholders have called for a representative list of opposition delegates that has been forged during the course of meetings in Moscow, Cairo and Riyadh.

Countries, including Russia, the United States, Iran and Turkey, disagree over the classification of certain groups as moderate or extremist opposition elements.
"We are a production of the Vienna [negotiations] and [UN Security Council] resolution 2254, so we are legitimate… Because we are legitimate, we have sovereignty. We don't accept any modification of our delegation and we don't accept a third party, " Monzer Makhous told journalists commenting on the delegation formed by Russia and Egypt.

Monzer Makhou also said that the participation of Syrian Kurds in the Geneva peace talks should be discussed after Syria's humanitarian issue is resolved.

"This is the next problem after we resolve the humanitarian problem," Monzer Makhous said asked about the participation of Kurds in the ongoing talks.
