Republican US presidential candidate Marco Rubio vowed to revoke the Iran deal should he be the next one to occupy the Oval Office.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio said that he would cancel a nuclear deal signed with Iran if he won the 2016 presidential election.
"When I am president of the United States, on my first day in office, we are canceling the deal with Iran," Rubio said during Republican presidential candidate debates on Thursday.
In July, Iran and the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, signed a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) ensuring the safe nature of Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions imposed on it.
On January 16, the International Atomic Energy Agency verified Tehran’s compliance with the JCPOA, opening the way for Iran's return to the global oil market. The same day, the United States and the European Union announced that they were lifting their sanctions against Iran.
