Iran, China sign 17 cooperation agreements

Tehran, Jan 23, IRNA – Top Iranian and Chinese officials inked 17 agreements and documents on bilateral cooperation here on Saturday.


The agreements were signed in line with strengthening of Tehran-Beijing relations and in the presence of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his visiting Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. 

Developing the Silk Road and constructing a Silk Road in the sea were among the issues on which the two have agreed.

The Silk Road or Silk Route is an ancient network of trade routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of Asia connecting the West and East.

Promotion of cooperation in the areas of energy, trade exchange, industry, environment and technology were also among the mutual agreements.

The Chinese president heading a high-ranking eco-political delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday night.

Jinping's Tehran visit takes place after 14 years when the then Chinese president Jiang Zemin flew to Iran.
