Mohammad Nahavandian, the chief of staff to the Iranian president said that Iran is willing to be a full partner in the WTO that would provide even better environment for international collaboration and cooperation.

DAVOS (Sputnik) – Tehran would like to become a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to create all the conditions needed for a mutually-beneficial international cooperation, the chief of staff to the Iranian president said Wednesday.
"Iran has already been an observer in the WTO. Iran is willing to be a full partner in the WTO that would provide even better environment for international collaboration and cooperation," Mohammad Nahavandian said at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss town of Davos.

Tehran first submitted its membership application to the WTO in 1996, but the US objections prevented it from joining the global trade organization.

It is believed that the historic nuclear deal between six world powers and Iran signed in July 2015 opened a window of opportunity for Iran to be accepted to the WTO.
