TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Members of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission plan to pay a visit to heavy-water reactor in Arak in the near future, the vice-chairman of the commission announced.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Thursday, Mansour Haqiqatpour said several members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission are slated to visit the heavy-water reactor near the central city of Arak soon.

He further said the exact date of the visit has not been determined yet, adding that the visit to the nuclear facilities in Arak is part of the commission’s duty to monitor the implementation of the recent nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The announcement came as a senior Iranian nuclear official said Iran has removed the core vessel of the Arak heavy water reactor in compliance with its obligations under the country's nuclear agreement with six world powers, a senior nuclear official says.

“We carried out the last stage of the removal of the Arak reactor’s heart and today our job was completely done,” Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said on Thursday.

“The calandria’s cavities, and not its heart, will be filled with concrete,” he added.

Kamalvandi said Iran has met its obligations in the Arak reactor, adding that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will verify the calandria’s removal later in the day.

The development comes ahead of implementation of Iran’s landmark nuclear agreement with the world powers up to the weekend.

Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against Tehran.
